CV Builder information

1 How do I alter the country of origin within my CV?

When you send your CV to an employer, it includes your country of origin. This is used by recruiters to assess your legal status for working in their country.

The information for this field is taken from your account profile in your My Monster account.

The Country field is set to select the country of the site you first used to set up your account. So, if you set your account up on Monster.com (our U.S. site) then your country of origin will automatically be set to U.S. Similarly, if you set up an account on Monster.fr, your country of origin will be set to France.

Changing your country of origin is easy.

First go to my.monster.co.uk and login to your My Monster account with your username and password.

This will take you through to your My Monster home page. Once here, click on 'Account Profile' in the purple bar about 2 inches down from the top of the page. This will take you to your personal profile page.

On the field marked "Country" click on the arrow to the right of the box and select your country of origin from the list that appears.

Once you have done this, enter your password in the box at the bottom of the page and click on the button labelled "Submit". Your account will be updated immediately.

You will not actually see the change on your CV because this information is only pulled into your CV when you submit an application, but employers will see the correct information when they receive your CV.

2 Can I upload my own Cv to the Monster database?

It is not possible to upload your own CV to the Monster database. If you want to have a CV stored on Monster, you need to use the Monster CV builder.

There are 2 reasons for this:

1. Many employers who use our site have their own computer systems where they store applications. It makes their job much easier if the CVs they receive from Monster come in a standardised format. That way they can easily transfer these CVs onto their own systems. Whilst the initial task of setting up your Monster CV may seem time consuming, it means that your future applications via Monster will be processed more quickly by the recruiter.

2. Some job seekers want their CVs to be searchable. This means that employers will be able to run a search of our database and find the CVs of candidates who are suitable for their vacancies. (PLEASE NOTE: the ability to search a CV is dictated by you. If you do not want your CV to be searched, you can store it as "inactive". You will still be able to use it for applying online, but employers will not be able to search it on our database).

In order for this search system to work, all CVs in our database must follow a standard template and contain the same type of information. This allows employers to run accurate searches and make clear comparisons between CVs.
