1 How do I use keywords effectively? Keywords are words that are likely to appear in the job adverts you are looking for. They tend to be words or terms that help to more clearly define your chosen job or field. Examples include programmer, SAP, telecommunications, Manchester, human resources, Yahoo, marketing, Scotland, etc. If you use keywords, your search will return all job adverts that have those keywords anywhere within them. So if you are looking for an accountancy position with a Formula One team (you never know!!) you could select the Accountancy/Auditing category and type in the keywords Formula One (italics not needed). This will return any job adverts in the Accountancy/Auditing category that have the words Formula One in the text. However, if you use the keyword manager the search will return all adverts that contain the word manager, which is likely to be quite a few! So it pays to use keywords that are not too general. 2 How to make your search more advanced If you would like your search to be more advanced then you can include words such as and, or and even and not. For example: To specify words that must appear in the search results, use and between the words. (E.g. publishing and editor). To specify words any of which may appear in the search results, use or between the words. (E.g. publishing or editor). To specify words that must not appear in the search results, use and not before the word (e.g. publishing and not editor). You can use an asterisk (*) as a wild character (e.g. publish* will return publish, publishing, publisher, etc). Note: The search agent will not accept any characters that are not alphanumeric (e.g. £ will not be accepted). 3 When searching for jobs using keywords I have an error message appear. What should I do? If an error message appears when trying to view your search results, then you may have entered symbols that the search tool does not recognise. Make sure you are only using words in your keyword box. For all other queries relating to Keywords, please email Job Seeker Support on: userservices@monster.co.uk
