Before reading these FAQs, you may wish to take a tour of our new Job Search functionality
Q: What is the difference between the new Job Search and the previous one?
A: The new Job Search offers the following enhancements:
- the ability to choose how the job search results are sorted, by date or by relevancy.
- Option to see the job search results in a 'brief' or 'detailed view'. 'Detailed view' gives summary information about a job posting before opening it.
- related job titles to search with.
Q: Why are the Related Titles included in the results for some searches and not for others?
A: The Related Titles are based on keywords, and matches within our system. If no relevant matches are available, then no titles will be shown.
Q: How does Monster determine the Job Titles that are related to my original search criteria?
A: Related Job Titles are determined by the keywords entered in the original search criteria.
Q: What determines relevance when matching the Seeker's criteria to the search results?
A: Keywords in a job posting are used to match relevant keywords in the job seeker's search criteria. The more relevant keywords matching a job seeker's search criteria, the higher the match ranking. Matching is capped in order to minimize inappropriate weighting by users posting positions. For instance, if "Unix Administrator" is one of the seeker's keywords, entering it multiple times within a job description will not increase the relevance of a match to a job seeker's search.
Q: How are relevant matches weighed and ranked?
A: Relevant matches are weighed first by keyword matches in the Job Title, and then by relevant keyword matches in the Job Description. Equally weighed matches are then sorted by Job Posting date.
Q: How is relevance determined if keywords are not used?
A: If no keywords are used, relevance is not as pertinent. In this case, the system will sort the results by date.
Q: Why is the Salary field displayed for some Job Postings and not others?
A: If a Job Posting is created using the Salary field on the job information, it will be displayed as a part of the search results. Salary is a field that is up to the discretion of the employer to disclose. If the Salary field is left blank, no information will be displayed.
Q: What is the difference between the Brief and Detailed View options available to job seekers when viewing their Job Search results?
A: The Brief View option allows you to view the basic details for the Job Posting, much like the original functionality. The Detailed View allows you to view the first 200 characters of Job Postings, including Career Level, Job Type, Job Status, Salary min/max, Salary frequency and Salary currency. Both options provide you with access to the full description.
Q: Why are there fewer jobs shown on the Detailed View?
A: The total number of jobs returned will be the same regardless of whether the Brief or Detailed View is selected. The Detailed View contains 25 jobs per page; while the Brief View contains 50 jobs per page. This is done to ensure that the page does not take too much time to load.
Q: Why have some options been removed from the Date Filter?
A: In order to enhance usability, the Date Filter field has been given a more prominent position within the page and options that were not heavily used have been removed.
